Years two, three, four, five and six from Friarswood Primary School in the town took part and year two pupil, James Powner’s entry was named top of the pile. James’ design focused on Christmas as a time where his family get together and enjoy spending time with each other. He drew a colourful scene with his family at home, with a big Christmas tree, presents and a roaring fire. The entry has now been printed onto special Barratt Mercia cards for all pupils at the school and will also be sent to residents at the housebuilder’s Burgess Brook development.
Aside from James in year two, eight-year-old Kerys Snape from joint year three and four, nine-year-old Jordan Greener from year five and ten-year-old Hollie Griffin from year six were picked as runners up from each year. Competition was fierce as there were so many colourful Christmas scenes and the eventual winners all received a £10 WHSmith voucher and a goody bag for their efforts.
The winner and runners-up were presented their prizes and the final Christmas card was revealed to the school on Thursday, 11th December at assembly.
Headteacher, Tony Selby, said, “All our pupils loved taking part in the design competition and it definitely got them even more excited about Christmas, if that was at all possible! James was so surprised to have won and he obviously cannot wait to take the finished article home to his parents.
“I would like to thank Barratt for organising the competition and for providing the prizes - it really has meant they have had even more to look forward to at the end of all their hard work this term.”
Chris Ashmore, Sales Director for Barratt Mercia, said, “It is always good to see children having fun whilst they learn, which is one of the reasons why we organised the competition for the pupils of Friarswood Primary School.
“Our Burgess Brook development is great for families looking for that special home which is near to a school they would be happy to send their children to. What is more, the prices suit all buyers and budgets alike – the perfect ingredients for a dream home.”
