A housebuilder welcomed the three hundredth buyers to move to their development in Ely during May.
Michael Phillips and Kayleigh Brown bought a three bedroom property at Barratt Northampton’s development off Kings Avenue, unknowing they hit the landmark figure.
Michael, a planning manager for Royal Mail, said: “It’s a really big thing and a nice surprise.”
Barratt is building just over five hundred homes in Ely, promoted under the Cathedral View and Bishopsgate developments.
The couple received a special ‘300th buyers’ cake to mark the celebration, from the sites’ sales negotiators.
The variety of buyers has been praised by the couple. Kayleigh, a taxi driver, said: “There’s a good mix of people – couples and families, and it has a nice community feel. All the neighbours are friendly.
“There are also lots of open spaces which make it great for walks, and it’s a quiet area.”
The couple moved from nearby Haddenham and needed more space, having had their first daughter, Kay-di.
Michael said: “Ely was the preferred choice as it is convenient for work. I can drive to Cambridge in half an hour and we can walk to Ely for shopping.”
The couple bought with Barratt using a scheme specifically designed to help people onto the property ladder – The First-Time Buyers’ Initiative.
Michael said: “We didn’t think we could afford a property like this, and the scheme made it affordable. It’s also easy and quick to use.”
And for the future? Kayleigh said: “We’re busy decorating a bedroom for Kay-di.” The couple look like they will be in Ely for many years to come.
