Previously living in a two bedroom property in Watford, they needed more space to accommodate the ever growing family, including their son, Stuart, and visits from their daughters and a grandson.
They visited Barratt’s ‘green’ development in Upton, and were quickly drawn to it.
Barry, an IT manager, said: “The homes are well-spaced out and there’s an open feel. And as we both work in Watford, being close to the M1 is ideal.”
They bought a four bedroom Apollo design, which came as standard with eco features. Barry said: “Everything flows well, and the rooms are of a good size.
“The PV [PhotoVoltaic] panels are superb. They help to supply electricity – we’ve just had out first bill for one month – it’s only £3.72.”
Location was another highlight for the family. Candy, a print account manager, said: “We love eating out and now we can walk to restaurants – it’s perfect.”
The Wilson’s took advantage of Barratt’s part exchange service, to make moving easier. Candy said: “We didn’t have to pay for a Home Information pack or an estate agent – it took away the headache of moving.”
And for the future? Barry said: “This home is a great investment. We now have the work-life balance back.”
Other eco-devices at the Wilson’s home include solar powered hot water. A rainwater harvesting system, and a sedum carport roof, helps with storm water management.
Homes on current release include four, five and six bedroom homes. Prices range from £272,999 - £358,999.
