Forces Help to Buy is a deposit loan scheme from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) for regular Armed Forces members. 

How much could I borrow?

Forces Help to Buy worked example

Forces Help to Buy aims to make it easier for Britain’s regular Armed Forces personnel, by enabling successful applicants to borrow their 5% deposit from the MOD.

The scheme offers an interest free loan to applicants of up to 50% of their salary, with a maximum of £25,000. The loan is repayable in monthly instalments over the term provided.

 

Who is eligible & how do I apply?

The scheme is available to regular Armed Forces personnel who are first time buyers.

Forces Help to Buy FAQs

  • The Forces Help to Buy scheme aims to make it easier for Britain’s regular Armed Forces personnel to purchase their own home by offering successful applicants the chance to borrow a 5% from the MOD.
  • Forces Help to Buy can be applied for by getting in touch with one of our Sales Advisers at your chosen development. The Forces Help to Buy scheme is available to all Armed Forces personnel as long as they:


    • Have completed the prerequisite length of time
    • Are not members of the Military Provost Guard Service*
    • Have more than six months left to serve when they apply
    • Meet the right medical categories

    *The Military Provost Guard Service is responsible for keeping physical security at all British Armed Forces locations. 

  • The process takes four weeks on average but can vary depending on the applicant providing all relevant information.
  • Ideally, you should apply at least six weeks before the expected completion date.
  • The Forces Help to Buy scheme currently has no end date.
  • Over 18,000 Armed Forces personnel have used the scheme.
