DIY winter decorations for your home this winter

Winter is the perfect time to get crafty and make unique and personal decorations. Whether they're centred around Christmas, or inspired by the colder weather. If you're looking to decorate your home to match the upcoming season, try out these easy DIY winter decoration ideas.

Choose a winter colour theme

Start by selecting the perfect colour theme. You could choose colder colours such as blue, silver and white to reflect snow and frost. Or alternatively opt for red, white and green for a touch of festivity. Try to avoid using too many colours throughout the home, as it could become too over powering and may clash in some areas.

Make the most of natural materials

For a more rustic winter look, make the most of natural materials such as wood and pine needles. You can very simply use these materials in a table display or as ornaments dotted around the house. You could even try and add a little glitter, to make your DIY decorations feel more festive.

A touch of orange

Decorating the home with dried orange slices not only gives it a more traditional festive look, but also fills the home with a delicious winter smell. Very easy to make, the orange slices can be made into tree decorations or even into a garland. This DIY decoration adds a festive pop of colour throughout the home.

DIY mason jar fairy lights

For an inexpensive winter decoration, fill glass jars with bright fairy lights. You could even keep behind some jars that you have used in the kitchen as a low cost alternative to buying new. Either dot them around the home for a cosy feel or hang them as a main feature.

DIY snowflakes

Make your own winter wonderland this season by creating snowflakes from everyday materials. You can use popsicle sticks, wooden skewers or even bits of pine for a more natural look. Easy to make, these are a great DIY project for the whole family. Hang them on the tree, on the wall or in the window for a truly festive feel.
