Best primary schools in South Wales

St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School

Rated as one of the best primaries in Cardiff, St Mary’s is in the Canton area of the capital just a few miles from our Maes Y Deri development. Boasting high levels of achievement well above the national average, the school has approximately 300 pupils and a nursery attached.

Brynmill Primary School

Heading over to the seafront neighbourhood of Brynmill in Swansea, this school also has around 300 pupils and caters for nursery, infant and junior-aged children. The Welsh Government’s National School Categorisation System rates Brynmill Primary as green, meaning it requires the lowest level of support.

Woodlands Community Primary School

Lying on the outskirts of Cwmbran two miles from Hanbury Locks, this strong primary school is also in the green support category, as well as being rated as excellent by the Welsh education and training inspectorate, Estyn. Around 350 children attend Woodlands Community Primary, which is known for its strong attendance levels and a caring learning environment.

Best secondary schools in South Wales

Cardiff High School

Tracing its roots back to 1895, the modern Cardiff High School is an excellent mixed secondary catering for children aged up to 18. Drawing a significant portion of its pupils from the areas around Cyncoed, Lakeside and Roath Park, the school is a top performer both with respect to Estyn and exam results, featuring at the top of national league tables each year.

Ysgol Y Preseli

This is one of the best secondary schools in South Wales if you’re searching for a comprehensive bilingual for your kids to attend. Located in the village of Crymych within Pembrokeshire, Ysgol Y Preseli has shown significant improvement over recent years and soared up the national rankings. With around 800 pupils mostly speaking Welsh fluently, attainment levels are up and demand for places reflects the school’s newfound status.

Cowbridge Comprehensive School

Less than five miles from our Parc Fferm Wen site in St Athan, Cowbridge Comprehensive is as much of a hit with parents and pupils as it is with inspectors. With its origins dating all the way back to 1608, this is one of the best schools in new South Wales. The mixed secondary has a total of around 1,500 students, including around 300 in sixth form.
