Best Schools in the North East

Covering almost 3,500 square miles, the popular North East makes up a vast swathe of England and as such, you can be sure there are lots of excellent schools across this region. Here we try to help you find some of the best options for the younger members of the family, as we take a look at five of the best secondary schools in the North East.

Kings Priory School

Located in Tynemouth just a few hundred metres from the sandy beach of King Edward’s Bay, Kings Priory School was voted as the North East’s best state secondary school in 2020 by the Good Schools Guide. Only opening in 2013 as an all-through following a merger between a primary and an independent school, it ranks 231st out of more than 3,000 schools across the country. Better still, it’s only six miles from our Bedewell Court development in Hebburn - an easy journey by car or on the bus.

Emmanuel College

Gateshead’s Emmanuel College was named the region’s top for four years in a row up to 2018, and remains one of the prime options in the area. A mixed secondary catering for children aged 11 to 18, the school has a Christian ethos but welcomes pupils of all religious backgrounds and faiths. We also have a development within around six miles of this school, with our City Edge site conveniently located for kids attending Emmanuel College.

Whitley Bay High School

Another North Tyneside school with an excellent reputation, Whitley Bay High School has been rated as outstanding by Ofsted for more than a decade. Well regarded by students, staff and parents alike, the mixed secondary also has the exam results to match its status. And the best news? Our brand new Church Fields site is less than four miles from Whitley Bay High School, where you’ll find a wonderful collection of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes just a mile or two from the seaside.

St Mary’s Catholic School

If you’re looking for the best secondary schools in North East powerhouse Newcastle, it’s tough to beat St Mary’s Catholic School. Outstanding according to Ofsted, the school is even closer to our City Edge development than Emmanuel College, with a journey of just over three miles.

Teesdale School

Sitting on the outskirts of Barnard Castle in County Durham, Teesdale School and Sixth Form is another outstanding mixed secondary in the North East. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and offering a real community feel with around 600 pupils in total, you’ll find a high quality of teaching and learning at this school. Future prospects are strong too, with the school claiming 100% of its Year 11 students went on to further full-time education, training or employment in 2020.
