The top primary schools in Bristol

From J.K. Rowling and Russell Howard to Sir Bernard Lovell and Stephen Merchant - the Bristol area has given rise to a host of sharp minds over the years. Whether you’ve lived close to the city centre your whole life or you’re moving to the area from neighbouring Devon or Gloucestershire, the best primary schools in Bristol aim to nurture and develop the latest generations. Here are five of the top primary schools to consider for your little ones.

Perry Court E-ACT Academy

Ranked among the very best primary schools Bristol has to offer according to local league tables, Perry Court lies to the south of the city centre. Located in Hengrove and with a catchment area that stretches to neighbouring Whitchurch and Knowle West, the school caters for around 400 pupils aged from three to 11.

St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School

Over on the other side of the city in the Monks Park area, St Teresa’s is rated as outstanding by Ofsted and also performs strongly in terms of league tables. The mixed school is of Roman Catholic denomination and has a capacity of around 200, encouraging students to fulfil their potential by inspiring each other in their learning.

Bishop Road Primary School

A couple of miles south in the Bishopston area next door to Redland and Clifton, Bishop Road Primary is another school classed as outstanding by the education board. Known for achieving a high percentage of pupils who meet expected standards in their SATs, the school has a capacity of just over 800 boys and girls.

Ashley Down Primary School

Only around half a mile’s stroll along Gloucester Road and then down Olveston Road, this primary is partnered with the nearby Brunel Field Primary School through the Ashley Down Schools Federation. Both are highly regarded by Ofsted, while Ashely Down has tended to score higher when it comes to local league tables. It has a capacity of around 400 pupils, which is the same as its sister school.

Watermore Primary School

Finally on our list of the best primary schools in Bristol is Watermore Primary in Frampton Cotterell. Outstanding in Ofsted’s books, the school is close to the popular suburb of Yate on the north-eastern outskirts of the city. Alternatively, keep an eye out for our Lyde View development just a few miles south of Watermore Primary.
