    The buzzing Buchanan Street is full off shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, and when you want to enjoy some peace and quiet there are some lovely natural spots on the outskirts like the Seven Lochs Wetland Park, Pollock Country Park and Cathkin Braes Country Park. If you like sports, you can choose between Celtic and Rangers to position yourself either side of the great Old Firm football rivalry with a visit to Celtic Park or Ibrox.

  • Glasgow has some excellent schools befitting its status as the largest city in Scotland, making it a great choice for families with children of all ages. If your kids are primary age, then Hillhead Primary School in the west of the city next to Kelvingrove Park is worth considering. It may be Glasgow’s biggest primary after the merging of four previous schools and two nurseries, but Education Scotland has given the school a glowing inspection report. 

    Just the other side of Gibson Street is Hillhead High School for older children, which also comes well recommended. The West End is a great place to live for top performing secondary schools, placing you within the catchment area for Jordanhill School and Hyndland Secondary School, which both rank highly in the annual exam results data.

  • Most of Scotland’s motorways lead to Glasgow, and the city offers excellent access to the M73, M74, M80 and M77, as well as the M8 which you can use to drive to Edinburgh in around an hour. The M74 meanwhile heads south towards Gretna Green on the border with England. 

    If you need good connections with the south then Glasgow Central is the train station for you, while Queen Street station serves the North of Scotland and Edinburgh. The city’s airport meanwhile is around eight miles west of the centre, next to Paisley and Renfrew.
