Barratt scheme built on success
The site manager at Barratt Northampton's £82 million Vizion apartment scheme in Milton Keynes, has become a runner-up on winning a top industry accolade.
Chris Edwards, who works for BAM Construction, narrowly missed out on the national award at the National House-Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job competition.
Run by the industry watchdog, the awards aim to improve the quality and raise the standard of service to homebuyers, by recognising the work of site managers and operation of a building site.
After winning the Quality and Seal of Excellence Awards in the first and second rounds, Chris went on to win the East regional title, one of just nine regional award winners in the country, in the multi-storey builder category.
He was then invited to the prestigious award ceremony in London to compete for the Supreme national award – which he nearly scooped, coming second.
Chris, from Letchworth Garden City, said: "It's fantastic for me and the team to be recognised like this. We all take great pride in doing the job right – but to achieve this is the icing on the cake.
"I've been involved from setting the project up, to the very end. It's been technically challenging as it also includes Sainsbury's and car parking beneath – and it looks wonderful.
"The judges were impressed by the consistent quality throughout and a well-managed project. There's nothing like this in Milton Keynes and it changes the standards in the area."
The competition is rigorous with around 18,000 site managers across the UK entered into the awards. In addition, each site manager is assessed over 12 months to gauge an accurate view of how they manage their site and the overall quality and finish of the new homes.
Vizion off Avebury Boulevard consists of 307, one, two and three bedroom apartments. Properties on current release include one and two bedroom styles. Prices range from £159,975 - £199,995.
