From ancient history to spectacular natural scenery and countless attractions perfect for children, the North East is brimming with wonderful ways to enjoy some quality family time. If you’re on the hunt for the best things to do with kids in the North East, why not use our ideas as a bucket list you can tick off one at a time?

Vindolanda

One of the most important archaeological sites in Europe, there’s a lot going on at Roman Vindolanda. Found along Hadrian’s Wall not far from Hexham, the on-site museum is quite literally a local treasure trove. See the Vindolanda Writing Tablets, learn how the Roman army operated from the base and explore ancient Roman buildings and modern interactive displays as you gain an incredible insight into the area’s history. There’s even a packed events calendar to get involved with, while you can even witness live excavations if you visit at the right time.

Ocean Beach Pleasure Park

Lying at the mouth of the River Tyne in South Shields, Ocean Beach Pleasure Park is sure to be a hit with kids of all ages. A thrilling amusement park with more than 40 rides and attractions, the seafront setting only enhances the excitement of exploring the park and all its attractions. With plenty of rides suitable for both young and old, the park is only around five miles from our Bedewell Court development, where you’ll find a brilliant collection of 2 and 3 bedroom homes just moments from the coast.

Life Science Centre

If you’re searching for things to do with kids North East, cities like Newcastle have lots to offer. The Life Science Centre is one of the best attractions in town, packed with fascinating exhibitions and activities. Children of all ages can get involved with plenty of exciting events, learning a thing or two while burning off plenty of energy and getting some playtime in. Boasting the largest planetarium in the North of England, our City Edge development is only a few miles from the Life Science Centre. This means you’ll always have something to do come rain or shine when you buy a new 2, 3 or 4 bed home close to Newcastle’s city centre.

Round the Twist

If the weather’s off, it’s always a good idea to have an ace up your sleeve when you’ve got little ones to think of. Sitting on the outskirts of Newcastle, Round the Twist is the North East’s biggest indoor soft play centre, welcoming children up to the age of 12. With everything from a huge multilevel play frame to baby and toddler areas and even an exciting car track, the centre is perfect for kids’ parties and has a restaurant to really make the most of your day there. Admission time is unlimited until the centre’s at full capacity, at which point you get two full hours of playtime to enjoy.

Bamburgh Beach

When the sun’s shining, sometimes it’s hard to beat a day out at the beach. This dog-friendly stretch of sand is perfect for the whole family. Whether you’re building sandcastles with your little ones, going for a dip in the sea or sitting back and soaking up some rays, you can even try your hand at surfing or flying a kite. What’s more, there’s a majestic castle which overlooks the bay, providing both a stunning backdrop as well as an interesting spot to stroll to when you want to stretch your legs. If you live on our Blossom Park or South Fields development in Morpeth, this beautiful beach is only around 50 minutes away in the car.
