Exciting community hub for West Hendon residents opens up at Hendon Waterside

On Saturday 22 April 2017 Barnet Mayor, Councillor David Longstaff, joined over 60 West Hendon residents to officially launch a new interim community centre at Gadwall House in Barratt London’s Hendon Waterside development.

The event was attended by 60 local residents, the Mayor Councillor David Longstaff, the deputy Mayor Councillor Sury Khatri and three West Hendon ward councillors. Residents were able to explore the services on offer and to talk to other visitors over tea and cake, while children were entertained with a face painter.

The name ‘Community Hub’ came from suggestions from local residents and Barratt Metropolitan LLP – the partnership delivering the regeneration – worked with the local community to design and fit out the space.

The hub is open to all West Hendon residents to use as a facility for activities, services and community meetings. Residents can also drop in and ask questions about the regeneration at the Regeneration Office and Resource on the first floor.

Barratt Metropolitan LLP is supporting the delivery of community projects which will be provided at the Hub, such as skills and training workshops, health and well-being classes and wildlife surveying and much more.

The temporary space will ensure that the local community has access to a space until a permanent community facility is delivered in a later phase of regeneration. Once complete, the regeneration will provide improved public space, a new primary school, better roads, an enhanced shopping area and 1,500 market sale homes.

The Mayor, Councillor David Longstaff, said: “It is good to see the regeneration scheme providing this excellent community facility for existing and new residents on the West Hendon estate. Today’s launch demonstrated this new space can be an important resource for the community."

Linda Robinson, Executive Director of Development at Metropolitan, said: “We strongly believe that regeneration is about more than delivering quality new homes – it’s about investing in the community. We look forward to continuing to work together with residents and local groups to plan and develop more activities and initiatives at West Hendon.”
