Waterside living is within reach for first-time buyers

Metro Moves interviews Barratt London’s newest home owner at Greenland Place.

First-time buyer at Barratt London’s Greenland Place, Gary Chan, was featured in an interview with Andrea Dean, property journalist for Metro Moves yesterday, after recently purchasing his first home; a studio apartment at Barratt London’s Greenland Place development in Deptford.

Before moving to Greenland Place, Gary had been living with family in Orpington, Kent, but was “eager to get his foot on the property ladder in London” said Dean. Having spent time with friends around Deptford and Surrey Quays, he was familiar with the area and was attracted to the idea of waterside living, which was possible at Greenland Place.

Gary commented: “I didn’t spend a vast amount of time looking for a property. Greenland Place was the third one I saw and it ticked all of the boxes so I didn’t want to lose out.” Gary adds, “The location is perfect for me as I work in Greenwich, I can even cycle to work if the mood strikes me.” He explains that his friends are spread across London so the excellent transport links from Greenland Place were an important selling point.

Gary generally drives to work and also decided to purchase a parking space at the development, as having a parking space with a property in London “isn’t an opportunity which many people in London will come by in the future.”

As a young first-time buyer, it took a combination of disciplined budgeting and assistance from family members. Once he’d been approved for a Help to Buy loan, he “was left with a very manageable mortgage”. When speaking of his experience buying through Barratt London, Gary adds, “the buying process has been pretty smooth, Barratt London really helped to even out any bumps which occurred along the way,”

Buying off plan “wasn’t something that I had previously considered, but after seeing the show apartment, I was taken on to the construction site and I was able to marry the image of the two, so I felt confident that I would be happy with the outcome of my apartment - and I am!”, said Gary.

Since moving into his studio apartment, Gary has been enjoying the convenience of his new home, with amenities like supermarkets located a short walk away. Greenland Place is conveniently located just a short walk from the Surrey Quays DLR station. Canada Water, London Bridge, Canary Wharf and the City are all reachable in just a few minutes from Greenland Place.
