Mural of West Ham FC legends painted in Upton Park

A colourful mural has been painted just metres away from Upton Gardens, the former West Ham United Football Club, to play tribute to Billy Bonds and Sir Trevor Brooking. The large artwork, which will ensure the clubs heritage is not forgotten, is located at the junction of Priory Road and Barking Road. Billy holds the club’s appearance record, and Sir Trevor Brooking scored the only goal in the Hammers’ 1980 FA Cup final win over rival Arsenal.

Cllr Veronica Oakeshott, who represents Boleyn ward, said “All the local area residents I’ve talked to are really excited about it. Not only does it cheer up a drip wall, it underlines Boleyn’s undisputed status as the home of West Ham FC’s great legends."

Barratt London’s Upton Gardens development strongly identifies with the former football ground it is built on - the football legacy is referenced throughout. The buildings are designed to follow the footprint of the stadium, from a small circus above the position of the pitch’s centre circle, right down to the balcony latticework reflecting football goal nets.
