50 of the most spectacular tall ships in the world sail along the River Thames as Greenwich plays host to London's first Regatta in a quarter of a century.
The five-day Royal Borough of Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta 2014 began yesterday with a spectacular opening night of fireworks and festivities. Over 50 ships from across the world converged on the Thames after sailing along the south coast from Falmouth in Cornwall.
Barratt London was honoured to play a part in making the Tall Ships Regatta a reality as principal sponsor. We also supported five young people on the festival's youth sailing programme.
The Regatta will showcase the beauty and heritage of Greenwich as fleets of tall ships sail past treasured landmarks along the River Thames. As London’s first Regatta in a quarter of a century, the significance of the event also extends to the wider London community.
The festival's youth sailing programme gave a group of trainees the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn new skills aboard the 70 metre-long ‘Dar Młodzieży' as it sailed from Falmouth to Greenwich.
Gary Patrick, Regional Sales Director for Barratt London, said: "Greenwich has one of the truly enviable locations on the Thames. It’s a vibrant, culturally stimulating place to live, and the Royal Borough’s Tall Ships Regatta will showcase its unique, historical charms and the wonderful community spirit that exists here. We’re also proud to have given five young people the opportunity to try their hand at sailing in this setting. I’m sure that it will have been an unforgettable experience and enhanced their sense of pride in this magnificent city we call home."
