The successful partnership between Barratt London and Sainsbury's on the Fulham Riverside development awarded bronze at the WhatHouse? Awards 2014

The Fulham Riverside development won a bronze award at yesterday's WhatHouse? Awards, for the partnership Barratt London has forged with Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd on their prestigious Thames-side scheme. The WhatHouse? Awards has celebrated the best new homes in Britain for over 30 years and are often referred to as the housebuilding ‘Oscars’, despite no-one at any point in the evening asking us “Who are you wearing?”.

The Best Partnership Scheme award is designed to highlight the excellent partnerships, or joint ventures, forged between developers and other organisations, such as that between Barratt London and Sainsbury's on Fulham Riverside. Fulham Riverside is an 8.25-acre development combining two sites - an existing Sainsbury’s store and car park, and the Fulham Wharf (former Kops Brewery) site - creating 467 new riverside homes together with a major new Sainsbury’s superstore.

The existing riverside Sainsbury's store was identified as an ideal location for our new residential development. Barratt London and Sainsbury’s have worked closely throughout the planning and construction of Fulham Riverside to alleviate impact to the local residents and customers. The existing store remained open throughout the build and transition to the new store is being carefully planned to provide a smooth, uninterrupted changeover.

Barratt London’s work with the local community has also enabled us to realise a number of other initiatives, such as transforming a derelict jetty into an ecology centre and study facility with a 'green roof'. The ecology centre will be used for the educational programmes run by local river-related community organisations. Other local programmes included an art competition for local New King's and Sullivan primary schools, to showcase students' designs of nature on the Thames and foreshore which Barratt London displayed on its development’s hoarding.

Regional Sales Director, Gary Patrick says: “I am delighted that Fulham Riverside has won bronze in the Best Partnership Scheme at the most coveted awards in the housebuilding industry”.

On the back of the success of the partnership, Barratt London and Sainsbury's have continued to work together on a number of other developments; including Nine Elms Point and Great West Quarter.
