Renaissance is London’s Best New Housing Development


Barratt London’s Renaissance development wins at the Building Excellence Awards 2015.

The Local Authority Building Control (LABC) celebrates “all that’s good in the construction industry”, and have awarded Barratt London’s Renaissance development as the Best Small New Housing Development at their Building Excellence Awards 2015.

The Building Excellence Awards look at what’s needed to build excellent developments in London. From technical innovation to sustainability and high performance, the awards credit developments that produce new and creative solutions to both the building and the surrounding area.

The category for Best Small New Housing Development looks at the response to any limitations from the surrounding area, the appearance, internal planning, the layout and landscaping. Attention to safety, security and accessibility to the development is also considered.

Stephen Thompson, Operations Director for Barratt London, commented: “I am thrilled that Renaissance won Best Small New Housing Development at the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2015.”

Renaissance acknowledged the needs of the surrounding area, specifically with the development of the state-of-the-art community leisure centre surrounding a new park, significantly improving the public realm. The striking new Glass Mill Leisure Centre is equipped with two swimming pools, a climbing wall, a gym offering a range of fitness classes and a café.

Renaissance was also a finalist in the category for Best Inclusive Building. This award looks at the development and surrounding areas that are accessible by the wider community.

Renaissance is a landmark regeneration scheme in the heart of Lewisham located next to Lewisham station. The development is a mix of nearly 800 one-bedroom suites, one and two-bedroom apartments and penthouses, where residents can enjoy featuring landscaped public gardens, or alternatively relax on their a private balcony or terrace, with homes on higher floors enjoying panoramic views across London’s ever changing skyline.
