If you enjoy a little retail therapy from time to time, you can shop along the cobbled Bank Street in Kilmarnock, or take a day trip to St Enoch or Princes Square Shopping Centre in Glasgow. For families moving to East Ayrshire, there are lots of schools to choose from in the local area including Stewarton Academy, Prestwick Academy, Kyle Academy and Kilmarnock Academy. If you have older children who are thinking about studying for a degree, Ayr is home to a campus of the University of the West of Scotland, while Glasgow’s several universities are within commuting distance of many towns and villages.
Getting to East Ayrshire
Although East Ayrshire is mainly a rural part of Scotland, its towns and villages are well-connected to the rest of the country by road, with the A76 and A71 running through the region. From Glasgow, the journey to Cumnock in the centre of East Ayrshire takes around 50 minutes, while the equivalent journey from Edinburgh takes one hour 45 minutes on average.
