New Homes in York

Just two hours from London on the main East Coast rail line lies one of the world’s most historic and beautiful cities - York. Stepping out of York Station, the first thing you see are the city’s medieval walls. York has more miles of intact wall than any other city in England and a stroll along them is a must for any visitor to the city.

Step Back in Time

Founded by the Romans almost 2000 years ago, York has long been an important political, cultural and commercial centre. Its name derives from the Viking name for the city ‘Jorvik’, and the Jorvik Viking Centre is one of York’s most popular and unique attractions. The skyline of York is dominated by the world famous minster, the second largest gothic cathedral in Northern Europe. This magnificent building includes many wonders, including the largest medieval stained glass window in the world, and three great towers each over 200 feet high.

Transport Links in York

York is less than an hour’s drive from the cities of West Yorkshire. The A1 and M1 link York to the M62 corridor and the other cities of the North, including Manchester and Liverpool, taking between one and two hours. Alternatively, if you head east along the A64, you’ll reach the seaside town of Scarborough, in less than an hour. York has two airports an hour’s drive away, Leeds Bradford to the West and Robin Hood to the South while a direct TransPennine Express links the city to Manchester Airport. But it’s the railway that will always be synonymous with York. The city has played an important role in the development of the railway network and represents the symbolic halfway point between London and Edinburgh. This long association with the railways means York is the natural home for the National Railway Museum, one of the most visited museums in the country.

Learning and Working

Despite its long and illustrious history, York is a forward looking city. York University is one of the top universities in the UK and a leading centre for research in wide range of subjects. It’s also home to the National Science Learning Centre and a thriving Science Park. Nestlé Rowntree is based in York, and popular chocolate bars like KitKat and Yorkie Bars are still made here. The city regularly tops polls of the most desirable places to live in the UK, so it’s no surprise that new homes in York are much sought after.
