Halifax is a growing minster town in West Yorkshire, just a short distance from Bradford, Huddersfield and Leeds. With a fascinating history rooted in textiles, confectionary and banking, there’s plenty to see and do in the town - making new houses for sale in Halifax popular with a wide range of homebuyers.
Halifax has good transport links by road and rail. The town is located close to the M62, with Halifax Station providing services to nearby towns and cities on the Caldervale Line.
A journey to Bradford takes less than 15 minutes by train or 20 minutes by car. Huddersfield can be reached in 25 minutes by car or train, while Leeds is 30 minutes away by car or 35 – 40 minutes by train. Manchester is also within reach, with a car journey taking under an hour and train journeys around one hour and five minutes.
Leeds Bradford Airport is nearby taking 40 minutes to reach, while Manchester Airport is also close by, taking 54 minutes reach for international travel.

One of the most popular attractions in Halifax is Eureka! The National Children’s Museum. The award-winning centre has plenty for the whole family to enjoy, including hands-on exhibits, sensory walks and outdoor play pit.
Other attractions in the town include Halifax Minster, Halifax Town Hall - designed by Sir Charles Barry, the same architect as the Houses of Parliament - Bankfield Museum and the striking Piece Hall.
The town’s Borough Market is housed in an impressive Victorian building, while The Victoria Theatre and Square Chapel provide evening entertainment across a range of performing arts including music, comedy, theatre productions and dance.
The People’s Park provides 12.5 acres of parkland for residents to enjoy in the west of the town, while other outdoor attractions in the town or just a short drive away include Manor Heath Park and Jungle Experience, Shibden Hall, Ogden Water Country Park and the Peak District National Park.
Sports fans can watch Halifax RLFC and FC Halifax Town play their home matches at The Shay stadium.
There are a number of top-rated ‘Outstanding’ schools in Halifax including The Crossley Heath School, North Halifax Grammar School, the Trinity Academy, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Savile Park Primary School and Salterlee Primary School. Calderdale College provides further education in the town, while the University of Bradford, the University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett University are within commuting distance.
