8 of London’s best up and coming restaurants

If you live in London or are currently looking at moving to the capital, there’s one thing you’ll already know; London buzzes. It’s a city like no other, full of vibrancy and life. And there’s one thing that stands out. Its food scene is continually innovating, evolving and changing, with countless restaurants, bars and street food options popping up. Each week there are plenty of the hottest new restaurants opening in London – it’s hard to keep up. To make the most of it, here are eight of the best up and coming restaurants in the city.

1. Bob’s Lobster

If you know London street food, you’ll no doubt know Bob’s Lobster. They’ve been showcasing their seafood and lobster rolls at street food events throughout the capital. And now they’ve got a permanent home in London Bridge – their old van even has pride of place too. The food: you can expect their usual fare of lobster and crab rolls, as well as tuna tacos, shrimp burritos, lobster mac n cheese and plenty more. Location: Unit 59 St Thomas Street, London SE1 3QX Website: bobslobster.com

2. Hide

Ollie Dabbous has been synonymous with top-level drinking and dining for a while now, and his new venture certainly doesn’t disappoint. It’s big and bold, but also discrete – hence the name, and is made up of three levels. It has the bar “Below”, all-day dining room “Ground” and the tasting menu “Above”. As you’d expect with Dabbous, it has one of London’s best wine lists. The food: think barbequed lamb with asparagus and pine, roast goose with birch sap and kale. It’s all about a real gift of flavour. Location: 85 Piccadilly, London W1J 7NB Website: hide.co.uk

3. Kricket Brixton

When Kricket first moved into Soho, there was a loss felt in Brixton once they left their original spot of Pop Brixton. But now they’re back in their home turf with a permanent residence. The food: traditional and contemporary Indian cuisine – rock oyster pakora, lotus root crisps and Keralan friend chicken are particular favourites for the locals. Location: 41-43 Atlantic Rd, Brixton, London SW9 8JL Website: kricket.co.uk

4. Sabor

Sabor is a stunning Spanish restaurant in Mayfair offering three different options for your dining experience, including an upstairs room with communal tables and sharing plates (you can book), a small bar and a street-level tapas bar. The food: baby squid, breaded hake, delectable cod, black tomato salad – the very best in contemporary Spanish tapas. Location: 35 Heddon St, Mayfair, London W1B 4BP Website: saborrestaurants.co.uk

5. Lina Stores

For those frequenting Soho on a daily basis, and for those who make the occasional trip, everyone should get their Italian fix from Lina Stores. The Italian deli has been a fixture of the Soho dining scene for over 75 years. And their newly opened restaurant on Greek Street has quickly been the talk of the town. The food: it’s all about fresh pasta here. The fresher the better. Location: 51 Greek Street, Soho, London W1D 4EH Website: linastores.co.uk

6.  Smoking Goat

There are a few places in London that offer the Thai food in a pub dining experience, but none that do it quite as well as Smoking Goat in Shoreditch. It’s not a pub any more – with the entire location being taken over by the food. But what it is, is the hippest, newest and coolest place in one of the coolest locations in London, but unlike some of its contemporaries, you can actually book – which is a relief. The food: exquisite Thai cuisine featuring Thai BBQ, unbelievable fried rice and some inspiring regional dishes from around the country. Location: 64 Shoreditch High St, London E1 6JJ Website: smokinggoatbar.com

7.  The Royal Oak

The Royal Oak in Fitzrovia is the pub with a difference. Headed by Dan Doherty, the former head chef of the renowned Duck and Waffle – London’s highest 24-hour restaurant. The aspirational chef and TV personality is bringing high-class food to this central London pub. Open Monday to Saturday, and serving high-quality food throughout the evening, The Royal Oak is sure to please newcomers as much as its regulars. The food: Dan Doherty’s signature ‘Nduja scotch eggs are worth the visit alone, while the new Sunday roast menu is building a reputation for one of the best in central London. Expect great beers, food and value. Location: 74-76 York St, Marylebone, London W1H 1QN Website: theroyaloakmarylebone.co.uk

8.  Wildflower

Peckham has been on the list of the most up and coming areas in London for a while now, and to cater for the culinary appetites of their residents, a vegetarian and vegan restaurant is a must. And it doesn’t get better than Wildflower. It’s arguably one of the best veggie spots in the city with creative and interesting dishes all over the menu. The food: expect small plates like roasted cauliflower, home-style savoy cabbage, and beautiful focaccia bread, with maximum flavour and minimum pretension. Location: Peckham Levels, 95A Rye Ln, London SE15 4ST Website: wildflowerpeckham.uk You could be a new home owner in London with the help of Barratt London.
