New homes in Burnopfield

Live the life

Located in County Durham in the North East of England, Burnopfield is a historic coal mining village within commuting distance of Newcastle, Gateshead and Durham. Whether you’re watching cricket, enjoying a round of golf or taking the kids to the adventure playground, there’s plenty for the whole family to enjoy close to your new home in Burnopfield.

Things to see and do

Although Burnopfield is a village, there are a small number of shops ideal for buying essentials. For a spot of retail therapy, there are bigger shopping areas in Newcastle and Durham, where you’ll find independent, designer and high street stores.

If you’re sports fan, you can join Burnopfield or Lintz Cricket Club, play golf at Beamish Park Golf Club or Whickham Golf Course, or go hiking in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The National Trust’s Gibside is also a popular place for walking, where you can explore the 18th-century gardens or even see an open-air theatre performance.

Other attractions close to Burnopfield include Beamish Open Air Museum, Beamish Wild, Tanfield Railway and Hall Hill Farm. Newcastle is home to the Discovery Museum, Seven Stories Children’s Museum and the Laing Art Gallery, while Durham’s Castle, Cathedral and University Botanic Gardens are also well worth a visit.

On sunny summer days, the North East coastline is within easy reach of Burnopfield, where you can visit Seaburn and Roker Beach, or take a stroll along Durham Heritage Coast.

Education

If you’re moving to the area with school-age children, the ‘outstanding’ Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School and Highfield Community Primary School are nearby, while St Thomas More Catholic School in Blaydon is also top-rated by Ofsted.

For older children and adults thinking about studying for a degree, Newcastle University, Northumbria University and Durham University are all just a short drive away from the village.
