Things to see and do in Stanmore

You may think Stanmore Country Park - with its epic views, handsome woodland and walking trails spread across more than 30 hectares - would be more than enough natural beauty for the area. You’d be wrong. Stanmore also offers wonderful access to Bentley Priory Nature Reserve, Stanmore Marsh and Aldenham Country Park. 

With Bernays Gardens in the heart of town and spots like Harrow Weald Common and Oxhey Woods nearby, there’s also the 50-hectare Stanmore Common to enjoy in the local area. More you say? How about Hilfield Park Reservoir, a 76-hectare local nature reserve with a wide range of wildlife including mallards, shovellers and teal. Or Ruislip Woods, which are less than six miles away and next door to the sprawling Colne Valley Regional Park. 

Education

There are plenty of strong schools in the local area for your kids to attend. Primary options include St John’s CofE and Aylward Primary, both rated as good by Ofsted. The outstanding St Joseph’s Catholic Primary, meanwhile, is in nearby Belmont and has a catchment area which stretches to Stanmore. 

Local girls’ secondary, Bentley Wood High School, is also graded as outstanding by Ofsted, along with Park High School. Stanmore College is in the good category, with the same going for Avanti House School on Common Road. 

Stanmore transport links

As the western terminus of the Tube’s Jubilee line, Stanmore is perfect for commuting to Central London, or indeed to other parts of the capital. As well as guaranteeing yourself a seat on your morning trip to work, you also get direct access to places like Bond Street, Westminster and Waterloo. 

The Jubilee line continues on to London Bridge, Canary Wharf and Stratford, which is the eastern terminus. Journeys along the whole line take just over an hour, while Stanmore is also conveniently located for the M1, M25 and Heathrow Airport, which is around 12 miles away.

Stanmore’s quiet, peaceful attraction and top transport links means house prices are on a par with the London average, despite it being on the outskirts. It won’t feel like it with those commuting links, though.
