Things to see and do in Carshalton

The Carshalton Ponds are a wonderful feature in the heart of town and coupled with the River Wandle, provide a great backdrop for a gentle stroll. Let your wandering take you through the picturesque Grove Park towards the equally pretty nature reserve, Wilderness Island, and even as far as the sprawling Beddington Park.

Mitcham is just north of town, where you’ll find Morden Hall Park and a large common, while Carshalton Park is back in the centre, with its playground, tennis courts and exercise equipment. And if you’re looking for even wider open spaces then you can head south to the other side of the M25 where you’ll find endless miles of beautiful open countryside.

Education

If you have kids, then you’ll be excited to know there are some great local schools to scope out. This includes Victor Seymour Infants’ School, which is rated as outstanding by Ofsted, as well as good options All Saints Carshalton CofE, St Mary’s RC Junior School and Harris Junior Academy Carshalton.

When it’s time for children to move on to secondary school, there are further outstanding options in the local area. St Philomena’s Catholic High School for Girls and Wallington County Grammar, a boys’ school, are both in Ofsted’s highest group, while Carshalton High School for Girls and Sutton Grammar School are also strong choices.

Carshalton transport links

There’s a good number of local train stations in the area, with Carshalton’s offering Southern and Thameslink services which can whisk you to Victoria in less than half an hour. As well as a number of local bus routes, Carshalton is also conveniently located for the M23 and M25 motorways, while Gatwick and Heathrow Airport are both less than 20 miles away.

The Carshalton property scene

Despite those excellent transport links, property prices in Carshalton are considerably lower than the London average, making it something of a hidden gem. This could be because it’s often overlooked for its better-known neighbours, Sutton and Croydon.

You can find some great homes in this area though, including a selection of stunning new apartments along Hackbridge Road in Wallington. And if it’s a new property you’re after, don’t miss our Low Deposit Schemes in London, with Deposit Unlock or Deposit Boost
