New Homes in Heathfield

New Homes in Heathfield

Surrounded by countryside in a rural setting, Heathfield is a market town in the Wealden District of East Sussex. Located in a diverse region, the town sits just 50 miles south of London with ancient woodland nearby and the coast only a few moments away.

Heathfield Attractions

Part of the civil parish of Heathfield and Waldon, the town has ancient origins with its market charter granted in 1315. The village of Old Heathfield was the site of the original settlement before the current town expanded. In 1995, to celebrate VE day, the Heathfield Beacon was erected as a memorial to Jack Cade who led a rebellion of the common people in 1450.

Those buying a new home in Heathfield will be able to enjoy the views of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. One of the most densely wooded areas in England; it is also home to the Ashdown Forest, open heathland famed as the setting of the Winnie-the-Pooh stories.

Well served by local amenities, the town is occupied by churches, various shops, pubs, a supermarket, takeaways and restaurants. Heathfield Leisure Centres provide gym facilities, exercise classes and a sports hall. The local area is home to several primary schools as well as the Community College which is dedicated to visual and performing arts.

A mere 16 miles from the seaside resort of Eastbourne, the town is also approximately the same distance from the historic spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent.

Every April, the town holds the Heffle Cuckoo Fair, a traditional event dating back to Heathfield’s original market grant in 1315. The annual Heathfield & District Agricultural Show takes place each May, featuring a wide range of activites and events including livestock and horse shows and trade stands.

Heathfield Transport Links

Although rurally located, the parish is well linked by road, with bus connections to nearby train stations. Heathfield lies adjacent to the junction of the A267 between Tunbridge Wells and Eastbourne and the A265 from Hawkhurst.

The nearest rail stations are Buxted (5.5 miles), Stonegate Station (5.9 miles) and Uckfield (6.8 miles). All stations allow for access to London via connections with most journey times under 2 hours. Regular bus services run from Heathfield to Tunbridge Wells and Eastbourne.

For international travel, Gatwick Airport is 29 miles away along the A272, with London City 55 miles away and Heathrow 69 miles away via the M25.
