Live the Glasgow life
An exciting city that’s experiencing another wave of regeneration, you’ll find lots of history and culture to complement the buzz of the centre when you buy a house in Glasgow. Doing just that could be even easier than you expect, especially with our range of offers which include our stress-free Part Exchange scheme and First Home Fund scheme.
Things to see and do in Glasgow
As Scotland’s biggest city, there lots of great cultural attractions to get stuck into, including Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, the Gallery of Modern Art and the high-tech, interactive Riverside Museum. The medieval Glasgow Cathedral, George Square and Glasgow Green are all must-sees, while the hands-on Glasgow Science Centre makes for an intriguing visit both inside and out.
The buzzing Buchanan Street is full off shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, and when you want to enjoy some peace and quiet there are some lovely natural spots on the outskirts like the Seven Lochs Wetland Park, Pollock Country Park and Cathkin Braes Country Park. If you like sports, you can choose between Celtic and Rangers to position yourself either side of the great Old Firm football rivalry with a visit to Celtic Park or Ibrox.
Education
Glasgow has some excellent schools befitting its status as the largest city in Scotland, making it a great choice for families with children of all ages. If your kids are primary age, then Hillhead Primary School in the west of the city next to Kelvingrove Park is worth considering. It may be Glasgow’s biggest primary after the merging of four previous schools and two nurseries, but Education Scotland has given the school a glowing inspection report.
Just the other side of Gibson Street is Hillhead High School for older children, which also comes well recommended. The West End is a great place to live for top performing secondary schools, placing you within the catchment area for Jordanhill School and Hyndland Secondary School, which both rank highly in the annual exam results data.
Glasgow transport links
Most of Scotland’s motorways lead to Glasgow, and the city offers excellent access to the M73, M74, M80 and M77, as well as the M8 which you can use to drive to Edinburgh in around an hour. The M74 meanwhile heads south towards Gretna Green on the border with England.
If you need good connections with the south then Glasgow Central is the train station for you, while Queen Street station serves the North of Scotland and Edinburgh. The city’s airport meanwhile is around eight miles west of the centre, next to Paisley and Renfrew.
The Glasgow property scene
As Glasgow continues to grow and reinvent itself as a cosmopolitan capital of culture, property prices are set to rise. That means you should be in for a good return on your investment, whether you’re looking for a 2 bed apartment on the banks of the White Cart Water close to Riverside Park and Hampden Park - home of the Scotland national football team - or a 4 bedroom detached home near Robroyston’s Wallace Monument and the Seven Lochs Wetland Park.
Whatever you need to suit your family, don’t forget to ask whether you can make use of one of our offers, such as our Movemaker scheme, when you enquire about your new home today.
