Things to see and do
Rich in history, with maritime heritage, Chichester is a great city. Its ancient cathedral dates back to the 12th century and is known for its intricate art and carvings. Surrounded by Roman walls, shopping is also on offer here with everything from high street brands to one-off independent retailers. Step into the city’s maritime heritage with a visit to HMS Victory, or head to the harbour to enjoy some sailing.
Enjoy the fresh sea air at one of West Sussex’s seaside resorts. Worthing is a popular spot with an art deco pier and sandy stretches. Converted beach huts now house artists’ studios that you can browse, while the surrounding South Downs National Park gives you plenty of opportunity to explore nature.
Bognor Regis is another popular spot with a family-friendly beach and lots of entertainment. Its wide promenade is great for walking, or head to one of its many Green Flag parks. History fans can learn about the areas past at the Bognor Regis Museum, while a number of sports such as beach volleyball are enjoyed through the summer.
Arty Arundel is another choice in West Sussex, where a number of sculptors and artists call home. Attractions such as Arundel Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre, and Arundel Castle provide great family days out.
The popular commuter town of East Grinstead has a lovely high street. Featuring several 14th century buildings, it’s a designated conservation area with a number of listed buildings in the town. Here you can take a trip on the Bluebell Line, a restored steam train that takes you on a journey through the countryside of West and East Sussex.
