Live the life

Located in Lancashire just a short drive from Preston, the village of Eccleston is picturesque and rural, yet within easy reach of nearby towns and cities. If you’re looking for the best of both country and urban living, a new home in Eccleston could be the right choice for you and your family.

Things to see and do

One of the biggest tourist attractions in Eccleston is the Lancashire Titanic Museum, which explores the lives of local people affected by the ship’s sinking. The Museum of Lancashire, Bolton Steam Museum and the Harris Museum are all within driving distance of the town, while Hoghton Tower and Smithills Hall are also close by.

If you enjoy getting a breath of fresh air, Haigh Country Park has its own golf course, while Worden Park has a maze, woodlands and a model railway. Brockholes Nature Reserve is a great place to spot local wildlife, and Eccleston Recreation Ground is popular with families of all ages.

For horse riders, there are lots of places to saddle up close to Eccleston including Matchmoor Riding Centre, Chorley Equestrian Centre and Earnsdale Farm Riding School. Other attractions nearby include Turbary Woods and Windmill Animal Farm, while the beaches near Southport are popular during the warmer summer months.

Education

If you have young children, primary schools rated ‘outstanding’ in the local area include Eccleston St Mary’s Church of England Primary School and Trinity and St Michael’s Church of England and Methodist Primary School. For secondary education, Bishop Rawstorne Church of England Academy is also outstanding.

For children and adults thinking about studying for a degree, the University of Bolton is only a short commute from Ecclestone, while the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Liverpool are also within easy reach.

Getting to Eccleston

Eccleston is close to junctions 27 and 28 of the M6, so it’s quick and easy to travel north and south. Although the village doesn’t have rail services, Croston Station is less than 10 minutes away by car, and there are bus routes passing through.

To get to Eccleston from Preston, the journey takes around 20 minutes by car, while the drive takes 25 minutes from Wigan, 30 minutes from Bolton and 30 minutes from Blackburn. From Lancaster, Manchester and Liverpool, the car journey takes 45 minutes depending on traffic.

If you’re travelling to London, you can catch a train from Wigan North Western Station which is a 25-minute drive away from the village. From there, the train to Euston takes around two hours.

When it’s holiday time, Manchester Airport is only a 40-minute drive away, while Liverpool John Lennon Airport is 50 minutes from the village, so there’s plenty of choice when you’re booking your travels.
