New Homes in East Ayrshire

Live the life

Located to the south of Glasgow close on the Scottish coast, East Ayrshire is a rural area combining town living with beautiful countryside and everything in between. Encompassing Kilmarnock, Cumnock and Stewarton as well as other thriving towns and villages, a new home in East Ayrshire is ideal if you’re looking for quiet rural living within easy reach of larger cities.

Things to see and do

East Ayrshire is home to a number of impressive historic sites, including Dean Castle, Dumfries House and Sorn Castle. The impressive Dundonald Castle is also nearby.

You’ll find lots of cultural attractions in the region’s towns, from The Dick Institute, The Burns Monument Centre and the Palace Theatre in Kilmarnock, to the Scottish Industrial Railway Centre near Dalmellington and the Burns House Museum in Mauchline.

If you enjoy a little retail therapy from time to time, you can shop along the cobbled Bank Street in Kilmarnock, or take a day trip to St Enoch or Princes Square Shopping Centre in Glasgow. Local golf courses include Ballochmyle Golf Club, Annanhill Golf Club and Doon Valley Golf Club, while other places of interest in the area include Galloway Forest Park, Eglinton Country Park and Loch Doon.

For families moving to East Ayrshire, there are lots of schools to choose from in the local area including Stewarton Academy, Prestwick Academy, Kyle Academy and Kilmarnock Academy. If you have older children who are thinking about studying for a degree, Ayr is home to a campus of the University of the West of Scotland, while Glasgow’s several universities are within commuting distance of many towns and villages.

Getting to East Ayrshire

Although East Ayrshire is mainly a rural part of Scotland, its towns and villages are well-connected to the rest of the country by road, with the A76 and A71 running through the region. From Glasgow, the journey to Cumnock in the centre of East Ayrshire takes around 50 minutes, while the equivalent journey from Edinburgh takes one hour 45 minutes on average.

When you want to go on holiday, Glasgow Airport is just a 50 minute drive away, with flights to destinations across the UK and beyond.
