• What are the Midlothian transport links like?

  Midlothian has good transport links by road and rail, with the A68, A7, A701 and A702 providing quick routes into Edinburgh. The City of Edinburgh Bypass also connects the area quickly to the city. Railway stations including Shawfair, Eskbank, Newtongrange and Gorebridge are on the Borders Railway Line, a scenic route connecting the capital with the Scottish borders.

  A journey from Dalkeith to Edinburgh takes around 20 minutes by car, while Gorebridge is 30 minutes away from the capital depending on traffic. From Eskbank Station, the train journey into Edinburgh Waverley takes just under 20 minutes.

  For international travel, Midlothian is around 20 minutes away from Edinburgh Airport.

  Midlothian has plenty to see and do for visitors and residents alike. From natural sights to historic castles and museums, there’s lots of choice no matter what your interests. For days out in the great outdoors, Glencorse Reservoir and Flotterstone Reservoir in the Pentland Hills are lovely places to enjoy a walk in the countryside or to spend an afternoon fishing. Vogrie Country Park is located within the city of Edinburgh’s boundaries and includes a nine hole golf course and an adventure playground.

  There are lots of historic buildings in Midlothian, including Arniston House, Crichton Castle, Dalhousie Castle and Borthwick Castle. Dalkeith Palace, Hawthornden Castle, Castlelaw Fort and Melville Castle are also located within the region.

   If you like to get active, Midlothian Snowsports Centre is a great place to practice your skiing and Snowboarding skills. Golf courses in the local area include Broomieknowe Golf Club, Glencorse Golf Club and Kings Acre Golf Course.

  For family days out, there are lots of places to visit in Midlothian including the National Mining Museum, Loanhead Memorial Park, and Roslin Glen Country Park. Edinburgh is also close enough for day-trips where you can explore Edinburgh Castle, Arthur’s Seat and the Scottish National Gallery.
