Things to see and do in Blantyre
There are plenty of cultural and historical attractions to explore in and around Blantyre, including the David Livingstone Centre, Bothwell Castle and the National Museum of Rural Life. M&D’s Scotland’s Theme Park makes for a great day out for the whole family, while you can take things a little easier with a stroll around Strathclyde Loch.

Calderside Academy is the town’s only secondary school, although other local options include St John Ogilvie High in neighbouring Udston, East Kilbride’s Calderglen High and Hamilton Grammar School.

The East Kilbride Expressway passes through the southern part of Blantyre, which you can use to join the M74 motorway in no time. This means you can drive to Edinburgh in under an hour, while it’s less than 20 minutes to the centre of Glasgow. Trains into Glasgow from Blantyre station take 20 minutes too, while it’s a similar journey to the city’s major international airport in the car.
