Things to see and do
Larkhall has a number of both high street and independent shops in the town centre, Along with cafes, restaurants and pubs. The Morgan Glen viaduct is one of the most well-known landmarks in the town, and the tallest of its kind in Scotland.
If you love exploring the great outdoors, there are lots of places to enjoy a countryside walk or bike ride close to Larkhall, from the wooded gorge at Morgan Glen to the beautiful Clyde Valley and nearby Chatelherault Country Park. Strathclyde Country Park, Falls of Clyde Visitor Centre and Wildlife Reserve, and Calderglen Country Park are all just a short drive from the town.
For families, there are lots of great attractions close to Larkhall including the Clyde Valley Model Railway, M&D’s Scotland’s Theme Park and the West of Scotland Karting Club. The Hub EK, which has a climbing wall, soft play area and an ice rink as well as a cinema and shops, is also near.
Education
If you’re moving to the area with children, there are a number of schools to choose from in the town including Machanhill Primary School, Robert Smillie Memorial Primary School, St Mary’s Primary School and Larkhall Academy. For higher education, Glasgow is home to the University of Glasgow, the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian University.
Getting to Larkhall
Larkhall has good transport links by both road and rail. The town is near the M74 and has its own train station with regular services to Glasgow and beyond.
Larkhall is 30 minutes away from Glasgow by car or 40 minutes by train from Glasgow Central Station. The town is one hour 40 minutes by train from Edinburgh Waverley with a change at Cambuslang, or one hour five minutes by car via the M8. The journey from Stirling to Larkhall takes 45 minutes by car, while the trip from Aberdeen takes two hours 40 minutes.
If you’re going on holiday, Glasgow Airport is only 30 minutes away via the M74.
