Things to see and do
Hythe is home to a number historic sites, from the Crypt of St Leonard to Saltwood Castle. Hythe Beach and Fisherman’s Beach are great places to enjoy a seaside walk, while Brockhill Country Park has a cafe, picnic area and children’s play park.
If you’re moving to the area with children, take them for a ride on the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, walk along the Royal Military Canal, go to see the animals and Dinosaur Forest at Port Lympne Reserve, or take a day trip to the popular Howletts Wild Animal Park.
Other places of interest near the town include Elham Valley Railway Museum, Lower Leas Coastal Park, and Folkestone Ski Centre, while Canterbury and Dover are both good places to visit for a day trip. For shopping, Ashford Designer Outlet is nearby.

Education
If you’re moving to Hythe with school-age children, it’s good to know that there are a number of excellent schools in the local area. Saltwood CofE Primary School, Seabrook Church of England Primary School, The Folkestone School for Girls and The Harvey Grammar School are all rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, while independent schools include Earlscliffe and Ashford School.
For further and higher education, South Kent College is located in Folkestone and Dover, while the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University are also within driving distance.
Getting to Hythe
Hythe is 15 minutes away from Folkestone by car, 25 minutes from Dover and 35 minutes from Canterbury. Maidstone is 40 minutes from Hythe travelling via the M20, while the journey to London takes one hour 45 minutes. The journey to St Pancras International from Folkestone Central station by direct train takes just 55 minutes.
If you’re going abroad, London Gatwick Airport is one hour 5 minutes away by car, while the ferry port at Dover has services to the continent. The Eurostar station Ashford International is only 20 minutes away from Hythe by car.
