Things to see and do

If you enjoy getting active, the town is home to Bourne Outdoor Swimming Pool, while other sporting amenities include Stamford Leisure Pool, Tallington Lakes Leisure and Ski Centre, and Bourne Cricket Club. For football fans, Leicester City play their home matches at the King Power Stadium, around one hour’s drive away from the town. 

For families with young children, there are lots of great kid-friendly attractions close to Bourne including Burghley House, Bourne Woods and Easton Walled Gardens. If you enjoy a spot of retail therapy, you can visit Queensgate Shopping Centre in nearby Peterborough.

Other places of interest within easy reach of the town include Rockingham Castle, Cogglesford Mill, Grimsthorpe Castle Park and Gardens, and Thorney Heritage Museum.

Education

If you’re moving to Bourne with school-age kids, it’s good to know there are a number of excellent schools in the local area. Bourne Westfield Primary Academy, Bourne Abbey Church of England Primary and Bourne Grammar School are all rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, while independent education is available at Witham Hall School and Kirkstone House School.

For older children and adults thinking about studying for a degree, University Centre Peterborough is within commuting distance of Bourne, while further education is on offer at Peterborough Regional College and Bourne Community College.

Getting to Bourne

Bourne is well-connected by road, with the A15 nearby. Although there’s no train station in the town, there are rail services from Peterborough, Stamford and Spalding just a short distance away.

From Peterborough, the journey to Bourne takes around 30 minutes by car or 35 minutes by bus. The journey from Grantham takes 30 minutes by car, while the drive from Lincoln takes around 50 minutes. Skegness and Nottingham are both an hour’s drive from the town.

If you’re travelling to London, the quickest way to reach the capital is by train from Peterborough, with the rail service to King’s Cross taking just 50 minutes, much quicker than the two hour 10 minute car journey.

When it’s time for a well-earned holiday, East Midlands Airport is only one hour 15 minutes away from Bourne. Birmingham Airport and Doncaster Sheffield Airport are also nearby.
