Things to see and do

Balderton is surrounded by countryside, with lots of places to enjoy the great outdoors including Balderton Lake, Riverside Park, Whisby Nature Park, and Kelham Hall and Country Park.

The village is home to a leisure centre, a 12th-century parish church and Newark Equestrian riding school, while Newark Air Museum and Newark Castle are nearby. The Buttermarket Shopping Centre and St Mark's Place are also located in Newark, while Newark Golf Club and Southwell Golf Club are both nearby.

If you’re moving to the area with children, they’ll enjoy seeing the animals at Ferry Farm Country Park, riding the trains at North Scarle Miniature Railway, and discovering local history at Southwell Minster. In the evenings you can see a performance at Newark Palace Theatre, or catch a film at the Odeon cinema.

If you have school-age children, Chuter Ede Primary School, Barnby Road Academy Primary and Nursery School, Minster School and Toot Hill School are all rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, while Highfields School offers independent education.

For older children wanting to study for a degree or vocational course without venturing too far from home, Newark College is close by, and the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University are within commuting distance.
