There are plenty of good schools in the area for your children, including Edward Road’s Cauldwell School and Great Denham Primary School. If you live on the outskirts of town in catchment areas such as Carlton and Sharnbrook, then you can send your little ones to primaries rated as outstanding by Ofsted.
For older children, Bedford Girls’ School is among the cream of the crop when it comes to secondary schools, and centrally located on the south bank of the River Great Ouse. Bedford Modern School to the north west of the centre is up there too, along with Bedford School on De Parys Avenue, an independent boys’ school which looks after 7 to 18-year-olds.
