Its six hangars take you through 100 years of aviation history, from the first war designs and technologies to modern-day jets and future innovations. John Bill built this stately home in the 17th century, which became the residence of the Earls of Mansfield between the 18th and 19th centuries. The sumptuous exterior is complemented by an even more lavish interior, hosting an extensive art collection by Rembrandt, Turner and Reynolds. Other highlights include the Great Library, Kenwood Gardens and the Housekeeper's Room.

3. The Greyhound Pub

Looking for a cosy pub to relax in on a gloomy afternoon? The Greyhound Pub in Hendon Village is hard to beat. This venue is more than a pub; it's a place for social gatherings. It was first established as a community meeting house in 1321, becoming a pub in 1895. The menu features British classics, premium spirits, craft beers and an extensive wine selection. The Sunday roast is the pub's star, so make sure to stop by on the weekend to give it a try.

Opening times: Sunday-Thursday 11:00 am-11:00 pm; Friday and Saturday 11:00 am-12:00 am

Best things to do on a sunny day

Hendon glows on a sunny day. Here are some of the best outdoor activities in North West London.

2. Stephen’s House & Gardens

A little further afield from Hendon, in Finchley, is Avenue House, a 19th-century Grade II-listed building with beautifully landscaped gardens. It was acquired by ink magnate Henry Charles Stephens ('Inky') in 1874, after which it's named. The mansion hosts the unique Stephens Collection with artefacts from his life, while the gardens include an arboretum, a bog garden and spectacular open woodland.
