Things to see and do

If you love getting out and about in nature, there are lots of places to explore close to Maddiston, from gentle walks through Zetland Park to wildlife-spotting at Muiravonside Country Park, Palacerigg Country Park and Beecraigs Country Park. Callendar House is a great place to discover more about local history, while the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, Linlithgow Palace, is also nearby.

For families moving to Maddiston, there are lots of kid-friendly attractions closeby, including Polmonthill Ski Centre, Grangemouth Sports Complex, the Scottish Owl Centre and the Linlithgow Story Museum. The Falkirk Wheel is only a short drive away from the village, where you can take a boat trip on the canal, hire a bike and take the little ones to the children’s activity zone.

If you enjoy a round of golf, you can practice your swing at Polmont Golf Club in the village. In the evenings, watch a film at Scotland’s oldest cinema, Hippodrome Boness, or see a show at Falkirk Town Hall.


If you’re moving to a new home in Maddiston with school-age children, there are a number of excellent schools in the area including Maddiston Primary School and Braes High School, both rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.

For older children considering getting a degree or taking a vocational course, the University of Stirling is nearby while Forth Valley College is in Falkirk. The University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Napier University, the University of Glasgow and Glasgow Caledonian University are also within commuting distance.

Getting to Maddiston

Maddiston is close to the M9 and M80, providing easy access to and from Scotland’s two biggest cities. Travelling from Edinburgh, the journey to Maddiston takes around 40 minutes, while the drive from Glasgow takes 45 minutes depending on traffic. The journey from Stirling is even closer, with a journey time of just 25 minutes.

There’s no train station in Maddiston, but Polmont station is only a 10-minute drive from the village. Falkirk is also nearby, only a 10-minute car journey away. If you’re travelling from London, the flight from Edinburgh Airport takes just one hour 10 minutes, while the train journey takes around four hours 45 minutes.

If you’re going on holiday, the journey to Edinburgh Airport from Maddiston only takes 20 minutes.
