Things to see and do

If you’re moving to Linwood with children, there’s lots for them to see and do in the town and the surrounding areas. The ON-X Linwood sports centre is a newly-built facility with three swimming pools, a sports hall, squash courts and more, while alternative sports are on offer at Linwood Skate Park, Unit 23 Skatepark and Snow Factor Braehead.

For the adults, you can enjoy a leisurely round at Elderslie Golf Club, practice your swing at Castle Golf Driving Range or go for a shopping trip to the Piazza Shopping Centre in Paisley. Paisley is also home to Coats Observatory, Starlight Music Theatre and Paisley Abbey.

When you need a breath of fresh country air, Gleniffer Braes Country Park is ideal for outdoor hikes, while Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park is only a short drive away from the town, where you can do all kinds of outdoor pursuits including cycling, walking and bird spotting.

Education

For families moving to Linwood, there are a number of schools to choose from in and around Linwood including Woodlands Primary School, Our Lady of Peace Primary School, Linwood High School and St Benedict’s High School.

If you or your children want to study for a degree without travelling too far from home, the University of the West of Scotland has a campus in neighbouring Paisley, while the University of Glasgow, the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian University are also within commuting distance.

Getting to Linwood

Linwood is less than 10 minutes from Paisley by car, while the journey from Glasgow takes 20 minutes by car or just over 15 minutes by train to Johnstone station. The town is a one hour 15-minute drive from Edinburgh, so the capital is close enough for day trips.

If you’re going on holiday or take regular business trips abroad, Linwood is conveniently only a five-minute drive from Glasgow Airport, so you can get a taxi instead of taking the car.
