Located in the West Midlands on the banks of the River Avon, Warwick is a historic town known for its castle, university and annual festivals. If you’re looking for good transport links and lots to see and do in the local area, a new home in Warwick could be ideal for you and your family.

Things to see and do

If you love finding out about times gone by, you can explore one thousand years of history at Warwick Castle, including the dungeons and the Horrible Histories Maze. There are lots of museums to visit in the town, including Market Hall Museum, St Johns House Museum and Warwickshire Museum.

For a walk in the fresh air, the town has a number of grassy spaces including Compton Verney and St Nicholas Park. The Cotswolds are only a short drive away, where you can explore the countryside and visit quaint towns and villages.

If you want to enjoy a little retail therapy, Warwick has both high street shops and independent stores, plus a weekly market and a farmers’ market once a month. Stratford upon Avon and Leamington Spa are also nearby, if you want to explore a different town with lots of shops and historic sites.

For families, there are lots of kid-friendly days out close to Warwick including Twycross Zoo, Stratford Butterfly Farm and The MAD Museum. The town hosts a number of annual events including Warwick Food Festival and Warwick Folk Festival.

Other places of interest nearby include The Warwickshire Golf and Country Club, Priory Park, Victoria Park and Warwick Golf Centre.

Education

If you’re moving to Warwick with children, it’s good to know there are a number of ‘outstanding’ schools as rated by Ofsted, including Coten End Primary School and Emscote Infant School. There are also lots of independent schools to choose from, including Warwick Preparatory School, Warwick School, King’s High School and The Kingsley School.

For older children and adults considering studying for a degree, the University of Warwick campus is just a short drive north of the town.

Getting to Warwick

Warwick is conveniently close to major towns and cities including Coventry and Birmingham, perfect if you’re commuting to work. The M40 is nearby, while the town’s train station has regular services to London, Birmingham and beyond.

Warwick is just 15 minutes away from Coventry by car, while the journey from Birmingham takes around 40 minutes by car or 30 minutes by train. The direct train to London takes one hour 30 minutes to reach Marylebone station.

If you’re going on holiday, Birmingham Airport is only a 25-minute drive or 30-minute train journey from Warwick, ideal for a hassle-free start to your holiday.
