Things to see and do
If you’re moving to North Lanarkshire with children, there are lots of great family attractions in the area including M&D’s Scotland’s Theme Park, Discover Amazonia in Motherwell and World of Wings Bird of Prey Centre in Cumbernauld.
For a breath of fresh air, you can enjoy a walk in Strathclyde Country Park or Chatelherault Country Park, take a trip to Seven Lochs Wetland Park or spot wildlife at Drumpellier Country Park. For families moving to the area, some of the best schools in North Lanarkshire include Our Lady’s High School Motherwell, Dalziel High School, Cumbernauld High School and Taylor High School. Older children and adults can study at Motherwell College, New College Lanarkshire in Cumberland and Coatbridge College, while Glasgow is home to the University of Glasgow and Glasgow Caledonian University nearby.
Getting to North Lanarkshire
The M8, M80 and M73 all run through North Lanarkshire, so there are good road links to get to nearby towns and cities. There is also a good rail network, especially helpful if you’re commuting for work.
From Glasgow, the journey to Airdrie takes 25 minutes by car or train, while the journey to Cumbernauld takes around 20 minutes by car or train, and Motherwell in 25 minutes by car or train. If you’re travelling from Edinburgh, Motherwell can be reached in one hour by car or 45 minutes by train.
When it’s holiday time, Glasgow Airport is nearby in Paisley. From Airdrie, it takes just 30 minutes to get to the airport by car via the M8.
