East Cowes has good transport links by ferry to the mainland, and by A roads around the Isle. The vehicle ferry takes around an hour from East Cowes to Southampton, while it takes around 30 minutes to get from one side of the Isle of Wight to the other by car. Newport is 15 minutes away by car, Ryde can be reached in 20 minutes, and neighbouring Cowes is 30 minutes away by road or using the Cowes Floating Bridge ferry service.
For international travel, Southampton Airport is the closest major airport to East Cowes.

East Cowes has a large number of historical attractions nearby, most notably Osborne House, the summer holiday home of Queen Victoria. The house now welcomes large numbers of visitors who can explore the state and family rooms, extensive gardens and Queen Victoria’s Beach. Norris Castle, a private estate, is found on the coast.
As a coastal town, there are plenty of opportunities for residents to enjoy the seaside. East Cowes Beach is a shingle and sand beach with views across the Solent, while Cowes Beach is nearby. Hamstead Heritage Coast provides a great place for a scenic coastal walk.
For cultural trips, the award-winning Classic Boat Museum and Gallery is home to a number of exhibits exploring the town’s maritime history. The Royal Yacht Squadron, one of the oldest yachting clubs in the world, is based at Cowes Castle. This proud yachting heritage is reflected in the annual Cowes Week Sailing Regatta.
For further facilities, the town of Newport offers good shopping along with a regular farmers market. Newport is also home to the Museum of Island History, the Newport Roman Villa and the Quay Arts Centre. Other local attractions include Carisbrooke Castle, the Robin Hill Adventure Park and Gardens, and Owl and Monkey Haven.
Sports fans can watch non-league football at Beatrice Avenue, home of East Cowes Victoria Athletic AFC.
The Isle of Wight Studio School is based in East Cowes, while Cowes Enterprise College is nearby. The Isle of Wight College, offering both further and higher education, is based in Newport.
