Live the life

Cornwall is made up of many different areas from authentic fishing villages such as Looe, Polperro and Port Isaac (home of hit TV show Doc Martin) to seaside towns such as Bude, Newquay, St. Austell and chic Polzeath.

The area also has a number of lively towns such as St Ives and Fowey which offer a cosmopolitan vibe while areas further inland such as Camelford, Bodmin and Launceston offer towns with impressive scenery.

There is plenty to do in Cornwall with outdoor activities such as walking, cycling, horse-riding and surfing high on the agenda. The Eden Project in St Austell is great for a day out and showcases a stunning array of gardens as well as presenting music and arts events.

The unique open air Minack Theatre at Porthcurno with its spectacular Atlantic backdrop treats visitors to plays and performances, while Tintagel Castle and Merlin’s cave allow you to delve into the mystery and magic of King Arthur.

Of course beach life is part of everyday life here and the region has some of the best sandy stretches in the UK, many of which are award winning.

From chic surf hangouts such as Newquay and Trebarwith Strand to family favourites such as Porthpean, Widemouth Bay and Perranporth, you will truly be spoilt for choice. Falmouth is also a popular destination for all ages.

Transport links

Cornwall is less than five hours from London when travelling by car or train. Motorists can arrive from the capital via the M4 motorway, from Manchester via the M6 and then on to the M5 to Exeter. The final leg of the journey takes you on to the A30 or the A38 through Plymouth into South East Cornwall.

If you come into Cornwall from North Devon, you can take the scenic Atlantic Highway A39 through Bude which can be reached from Junction 27 on the M5.

There are good rail links with high speed train services frequently operating to and from London Paddington Station. Daily train services from Bath and Bristol also run to Cornwall.

When travelling by air, Newquay Cornwall Airport has links to the rest of the UK as well as further afield for international travellers. From Birmingham, London and Manchester it takes just over one hour, while from the Isles of Scilly it is just 30 minutes.
