With a population around 20,000, Neath is a popular South Wales town within easy reach of Swansea and the M4. Near to both the coast and the Welsh countryside, new homes in Neath benefit from a varied lifestyle with plenty to see and do in the local area.
Situated north of the M4, Neath has good transport links to Swansea and Carmarthen in the west, and Cardiff and Newport to the east. The town also has a railway station which links to the South Wales Main Line running from Bristol Parkway into Wales.
A journey from Neath to Swansea takes 20 minutes by car via the M4 and A4067. The train takes just 11 minutes, making it a convenient choice for commuters. Neath to Carmarthen is an hour and 10 minutes by train or 35 minutes by car via the M4. Cardiff is 45 minutes away along the M4, or 40 minutes by train.
London can be reached from Neath in two hours and 50 minutes by train. The car journey is longer, at around three hours via the M4 with light traffic.
The closest airport is Cardiff, just a 52 minute drive away on the M4.
Places of interest
From historical attractions to the Welsh coastline, there’s plenty to see and do near Neath. Gnoll Estate Country Park provides 100 acres of parkland to explore, including duck ponds, 18th century cascades and the ruins of Gnoll House. Afan Forest has lots of mountain biking trails and hiking paths to enjoy, while other outdoor attractions include The National Trust Aberdulais Tinworks and Waterfall, and Margam Country Park.
For an insight into local history, South Wales Miners Museum in the Afan Valley has both indoor and outdoor exhibits, including a Blacksmith House and Lamp Room. The National Waterfront Museum in Swansea tells the 300 year story of industry and innovation in Wales.
For beachside fun, Aberavon Beach in Port Talbot is popular with families and surfers. The celebrated Welsh coastline at the Gower is a 50 minute drive away from Neath, with beaches including Three Cliffs, Llangennith and Rhossili Bay.
The Gnoll stadium is home to Neath RFC rugby union club, who play in the Welsh Premier Division. Liberty Stadium in nearby Swansea is home to both the Ospreys rugby union team and Swansea FC, who play football in the Premier League.
With close proximity to Swansea, Neath is well-positioned for students travelling to and from Swansea University - ranked within the top 50 higher education institutions in the UK - and Swansea Metropolitan University.
