Things to see and do

Ashby-de-la-Zouch is home to a number of historic sites, including the town’s castle which dates back to the 12th century, and Ashby-de-la-Zouch Museum which explores the town through the ages. There are a number of independent shops in the town centre, while other places of interest include Ferrers Gallery and Willesley Park Golf Club.

If you like to keep fit and active, there are lots of sporting facilities near Ashby-de-la-Zouch including Ashby Hastings Cricket Club, Swadlincote Ski and Snowboard Centre, and Hicks Lodge National Forest Cycle Centre. If you prefer to spectate, you can watch Leicester City FC play their home matches at the King Power Stadium.

For families, there are a number of kid-friendly attractions nearby including the barefoot walk and assault course at Conkers, the wildflower meadow at Staunton Harold Reservoir and over 500 animals at Twycross Zoo.

Other places of interest near the town include Donington Park, Donington le Heath Manor House, Claymills Victorian Pumping Station and Battlefield Line Railway.

Education

If you have school-age children, there are a number of ‘outstanding’ schools in the local area as rated by Ofsted, including Ashby Hill Top Primary School, Woodville Infant School and Worthington School. If you’re looking for private education, Manor House School is nearby. 

For degree-level courses, there are plenty of universities within commuting distance of Ashby-de-la-Zouch including the University of Leicester, the University of Nottingham, Loughborough University and the University of Derby.

Getting to Ashby-de-la-Zouch

Whether you’re commuting for work or visiting friends and family, Ashby-de-la-Zouch is well-connected to nearby towns and cities by road. Although the town doesn’t have a train station, Burton-upon-Trent station is a 25 minute drive away, while Leicester and Loughborough have services to London and other major cities.

From Loughborough, the journey to Ashby-de-la-Zouch takes around 25 minutes by car. The town is around 30 minutes from Nottingham, Leicester and Birmingham, and a two hours 20-minute drive from London. If you want to travel to the capital by train, the journey to St Pancras from Leicester takes one hour 10 minutes.

When it’s time for a relaxing holiday, East Midlands Airport is only a 15-minute drive away, ideal for a hassle-free trip.
