Things to see and do

There are lots of attractions in and around Inverurie, including Inverurie Whisky Shop, the Grampian Toy and Dollhouse Museum, the Pictish Brandesbutt Stone and Castle Fraser. Tolquhon Castle in Ellon is known as one of the most beautiful castles in Scotland, while East Aquhorthies Stone Circle is just a short drive from the town.

If you want to get out and about in the great outdoors, Bennachie Visitor Centre is a good starting point for walks up Bennachie Hill. Cairngorms National Park is within driving distance of Inverurie, perfect for hiking and cycling adventures in the wild Scottish landscapes.

If you’re a fan of golf, Inverurie Golf Club is located alongside the town, while Kemnay Golf Club is nearby. Horse-riding enthusiasts can visit The Cabin Equestrian Centre, while families with young children will enjoy a visit to Wynford Farm Playbarn in Aberdeen.

For a spot of retail therapy, Aberdeen is home to many shopping districts including Union Street, Union Square Shopping Centre, Bon Accord and St Nicholas and The Trinity Centre. 

Education

If you’re moving with school-age children, there are a number of schools in the town including Inverurie Market Place School and Inverurie Academy. For higher education, the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University Aberdeen are within commuting distance, ideal if your grown children want to live at home while studying for a degree. The city is also home to Marischal College and Aberdeen College.

Getting to Inverurie

Inverurie has good transport links by both road and rail, ideal if you’re commuting to nearby towns and cities for work. From Aberdeen, the journey to Inverurie takes 35 minutes by car via the A96, or 25 minutes by train, while Inverness is two hours 15 minutes away by car or one hour 50 minutes by train.

Travelling from further afield, the journey from Edinburgh takes three hours by car or two hours 55 minutes by train, while the trip from Glasgow takes three hours 10 minutes by car or three hours 15 minutes by train with one change at Aberdeen.

If you’re going on holiday or taking a business trip, Inverurie is only 15 minutes from Aberdeen Airport, with flights to destinations in the UK and across the world.
