It’s just over 10 minutes to Prestonpans, which is home to the nearest train station to Ormiston, and it’s a little more than that to Musselburgh. If you want to drive over to Glasgow, that’s a journey of around an hour along the M8 motorway. 
  • The local school for younger children is Ormiston Primary School on Meadowbank, next to which you’ll find a play park which opens up to the Tyne Water river and miles of open countryside. The closest secondary school to the village is Ross High School, which is three miles to the north in Tranent. 
  • The village has a quaint and charming centre, which you’ll enjoy as you wander past the Ormiston Market Cross and ancient trees like the spectacular Great Yew of Ormiston. Winton House is a historic castle just east of town, while a little south of there you’ll find the popular Glenkinchie Distillery, known for its single malt whisky.
