Langdon Hills Country Park and Wat Tyler Country Park are also nearby, so there’s lots of choice for your next walk or bike ride.

For families moving to the area, there are plenty of kid-friendly attractions including Barleylands Farm Park, The Cater Museum in Billericay and Barnards Miniature Railway in West Horndon. If you want to go shopping, there are lots of high street shops at the Eastgate Shopping Centre, thile Festival Leisure Park offers entertainment including bowling, a cinema and restaurants.

Other places of interest include Coalhouse Fort in East Tilbury, Thurrock Thameside Nature Park in Stanford-le-Hope and Hylands House and Park in Chelmsford.

Education

For families with school-age kids, there are a number of outstanding schools in the local area including Greensted Junior School, The Appleton School, Beauchamps High School and The King John School. South Essex College offers further education, while universities within commuting distance of the town include the University of Essex in Southend, so you won’t have to travel far to study for a degree.

Getting to Basildon

Basildon is a 55 minute drive from London, while the train journey takes the same amount of time to get from Fenchurch Street to Basildon with one change at Upminster. The journey from Southend-on-Sea takes 35 minutes by train via Pitsea, or 25 minutes by car via the A127. Basildon is a 25 minute drive from Chelmsford.

When it’s time to go on holiday, London Stansted Airport is only a 45 minute drive away, while London Gatwick can be reached in less than one hour depending on traffic.
