Live the Life

Filwood is located just south of Bristol and covers the suburbs of Filwood Park, Inns Court and Lower Knowle. Bristol city centre is less than three miles away so it’s ideal for those who want to still be able to enjoy the hustle and bustle of city life but enjoy a quieter pace of life when at home.

It’s only nine miles away from the historic town of Bath too.

Things to see and do

In 2017, Bristol was named the best place to live by the Sunday Times and it’s one of the most internet-connected cities in the UK. There’s a library, cinema, restaurants, cafes, gyms, shops and supermarkets within walking distance of Filwood and the metro link is nearby.

A thriving city, Bristol promises almost everything you could need. There’s the stunning Waterfront with its many bars, ideal for sunny afternoons when you can sit back and enjoy watching boats on the river. Fashion lovers will enjoy strolling down Park Street and exploring the many boutique shops and cafes, before nipping to Gloucester Road and the big shopping malls.

The College Green by the cathedral is a great place to meet for a picnic but there are plenty of other fantastic green spaces in this vibrant city too. The award-winning St Nicholas Market (or St Nicks to locals) is not to be missed, it has so many hidden gems and the street food on offer is incredible.

Less than ten minutes’ drive away from Filwood Park is Hengrove Park Leisure centre. It has an Olympic sized swimming pool, gym, dance studios, specialist spin studio, crèche, sports hall and onsite cafe. Football fans will no doubt enjoy playing five a side on the astro turf pitch at the nearby indoor sports centre, while golfers can head to the Knowle Golf Course.

Nature lovers will enjoy spending time in Manor Woods Valley Local Nature Reserve, a Bristol beauty spot. It has wild garlic covering its slopes, stunning wildflower meadows and the Malago stream is a big hit for cooing down on hot days. It’s a great place to go for a walk or bike ride at just about any time of year.

For families planning on making the move to Filwood, being close to good schools will be important to you. There are lots of good schools in Filwood or close by, including Bristol Grammar School, Queen Elizabeth's Hospital School, St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School and Bristol Cathedral Choir School.

When it comes to colleges, you’ll be spoilt for choice as there are over twenty in Bristol, with many of the high schools having their own. For those wanting to study for a degree, there’s the University of Bristol, University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) and School of Education to choose from.
