Live the life

Located on the edge of the picturesque Cannock Chase in Staffordshire, Rugeley is a market town within commuting distance of Stafford, Lichfield and Birmingham. With lots to see and do in the local area, from nature trails to heritage railway lines, traditional markets and museums, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy close to your new home in Rugeley.

Things to see and do

As a market town, Rugeley still hosts a regular market in the town centre on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The town is also home to a number of high street stores and the Brewery Street Arcade, while the Bullring shopping mall in Birmingham is less than an hour away.

For a breath of fresh air, a walk along the access-friendly heritage trail to Cannock is popular with families, while Wolseley Centre is the starting point for a number of different nature trails. Other popular places to visit include Birches Valley Forest Centre, Cannock Chase Visitor Centre and Chasewater Country Park.

If you’re moving to the area with children, they’ll enjoy taking a ride on the Chasewater Railway and saying hello to the animals at Amerton Farm and Craft Centre. Sports fans can try out watersports at nearby Wakelake, join Rugeley Cricket Club or practice their swing at Lakeside Golf Club.

For evening entertainment, Rugeley Rose Theatre hosts regular performances throughout the year, while the Lichfield Garrick Theatre and Stafford Gatehouse Theatre are only a short train journey away.

Education

For families moving to the local area, there are a number of good schools nearby including St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Chase View Community Primary School, The Hartt School and Kingsmead School. Colwich CofE Primary School is rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, while independent education is available at St Bede’s School, Abbots Bromley School and Chase Grammar School.

If your children want to study for a degree or take a vocational course, Staffordshire University has a campus in nearby Lichfield, and Harper Adams University is only a short drive away in Shropshire. Birmingham’s many universities, including the University of Birmingham, Aston University and Birmingham City University, are also within commuting distance.

Getting to Rugeley

Rugeley is well-connected to major transport routes, with two local train stations and the M6 only a short drive away. The town is a 15-minute drive from Lichfield via the A51, or less than 10 minutes by train, while Stafford can be reached in 25 minutes by car or 10 minutes on the train. Birmingham is a 45-minute drive from Rugeley, or 55 minutes by train, while the train journey to London Euston takes just one hour 40 minutes.

If you’re going on holiday, Birmingham Airport is only a 40-minute drive away from the town.
